Just moved in to new property - previous owners with British Gas

Hey peeps

Could anyone advise me, or has anyone else been in a similar position.

We've just bought a house and the previous owners were with British Gas for Gas and Electric. I'm imagining that it would be pretty wise to change and find a new supplier.

This is slightly tricky not knowing how much energy we will use yet.

I'm presuming I'll need to go to BG first and give them the meter readings from when we moved in and then move somewhere else. Will that work....do I have to wait a certain amount of time before switching? I'd ask BG but I'm sure they'll give me some spiel about staying with them blah blah blah!!

Thoughts, advice and previous experience welcomed!! :D

Check with British Gas that it has got your details correct - especially the meter readings when you moved in and the tariff you are currently on (presumably standard). You don't need to tell BG when switching. You give your new supplier the meter readings on the switching date and they will pass them on to BG.

It depends what you're being asked to pay, find out what tariff bg have you on and then shop around.

Thank you both. :) Checked and BG put us on to their standard clear and simple package, so was able to get some comparisons. Will wait until al the paperwork and customer number/meter numbers come through and then we'll change.

    Thanks again :D
