When I owned an electric bike there were another four in the garage, FS MTB, HT MTB, Tourer and a Hybrid, my yearly mileage was and still is 3-5000k, could you expand further on your experience, I'm all ears.....maybe being all ears is a disability ? Do you have advice on engines in motorcycles or in cars, I hear that there is a new passenger plane where passenger have to flap their arms to fly, Ned Ludd would love it, I suspect you'd be in good company.0 -

I used it a few times only after discovering how mind boggling boring they are and how embarrassed I felt riding one, sat like a sad old pratt twisting its throttle and going no faster than I could pedal a normal bike. They really are at the bottom of the pile when it comes to street cred. worse than Reliant Robins. when the battery died once ( 5 miles from home ) I still have the memory of how horrible and heavy it was to pedal those 5 miles. If I can stop anyone making the same mistake as me, I will. I know there are devotees ( like you ) who love them, but to anyone starting off I would advise to just get a normal light weight bike ( lighter the better ) and get fit at the same time
I'd refute your claims but I'll settle for knowing your opinion is based on an inability to understand what the key benefits of electric bikes are, the fact you slag them off for having no 'street cred' makes me think you're an even greater turnip than I first thought.0 -

Old blokes perched up on their lecky bikes look ridiculous, cheapest form of transport ( next to a proper bike ) cheapskate image, low status etc. I am a keep fit fanatic and I advise everyone, if possible to get on a bike and pedal it themselves. You might mock "street cred " but its what drives the motor industry on and every other consumer product. I personally dont dislike them , its just a proper bike , lightest possible, is a better option. Sorry if I have upset you mate
That's not only silly, but wrong.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -

If I may say so, that's a very self-centred attitude. I'm not disabled, quite fit and active, but I turned 60 last month and obviously the system is starting to slow down. I have cycled all my life and love it, but since moving to where I live now I hardly cycle at all because it's quite a hilly area and the car/motorbike just seem an easier option. If I had an electric bike to just take the sting out of the hills, I would probably use it a great deal.
It's all very well for you, a self-confessed keep-fit fanatic, to look down on those who are older or less fit and who perhaps don't share your approach, but for the rest of us who just like being on two wheels and out in the fresh air, an electric bike might be just the thing to keep us biking. Sorry, but you come across as self-righteous and condescending, and I'm sure you don't mean to.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -

Electric bikes are hopeless up hills. The one I had virtually stopped when asked to go up much of a gradient. I really dont understand the mentality of anyone who is half fit to go out and spend a thousand pounds and more on one of these jokes , they must be either too knackered and heavy or just too lazy to get pedaling. In cold weather you would have to really wrap up , whereas if you cycle you are your own power station and create your own heat.
Not everyone has the opportunity to do as you do, nor do they possess either the fitness levels or interest in cycling that you possess.
You're failing to grasp that it's not wrong to be like this, just different.
But one way or another, the possession of an electric bike has been involved in your path to fitness, so surely it's wrong to knock them.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0
