Bank charges and more debt...

Options
Hi, apologies if this is in the wrong section, I need some help /advice...

Recently went over my overdraft limit, and charged when dd's came out, I asked the bank if it was possible to help with the charges and stretch them out over a longer period as I knew this stuation would happen again in the coming months due to work needed on my car. The bank wasn't helpful at all didn't over advice just told me towards what I was doing. So I left it for a couple of months not really knowing what to do, the charges have spiralled and I'm now over a £1000 over my agreed limit. I can't see a good outcome to this, so how can i get some help or convince the bank to assist in some way? Not looking for a hand out just to be able to pay my debts off in a manageable me way...like most I have a mortgage, loan, credit cards and debits to family...I'm doing as much work and overtime as I can, just a bit worried in the short term...

  • It won't help you much now, but "leaving it for a couple of months" was probably the worst thing you could do.

Things like this hardly ever get better when they're ignored - they just get worse and worse and turn into the kind of situation you're in now.

Talking to the bank is the only real way out of this if you can't pay the sums they now want - but if they've already said "no" why would they change their mind?

I would recommend you hop over the debtfree wannabee board and post your detailed SOA with a request for some comments from them. There are a lot of people who have been or are in similar situation like you, so they will be able to understand better what you might be able to do.

Act now, don't stick your head in the sand any longer.
  • Thanks Archie.
