Will these specs play most new pc games?

I've been Money Tipped!
My daughter doesn't normally play pc games as our netbook isn't powerful enough (only have an Acer Aspire One, so 1.6 Ghz, 533 MHz, 1GB, 160 GB HDD).

Hence we haven't bought new pc games in years!

The specs of the laptop I am thinking of buying are:

Intel® Pentium® 2020M (2.4GHz)
Memory: 8GB (4096x2) DDR3 1600 MHz
Hard Disk Drive: 1TB (5400rpm)
Graphics: Intel® HD Graphics 4000
Optical drive: Bluray
Display: 15.6” LED-backlit TFT LCD diplay (HD 1366x768 / 16:9)

Would these specs be ok for newish games.

Ta.

Don't think that the specs above include a dedicated graphics card so it's going to struggle with games, especially 3D games. Processor also looks on the weedy side - better to get an i-series Intel processor. (Happy to be corrected on the above if anyone can stop a flaw in my logic :) )

The model is the Asus K55A-SX524H.

We have a budget of £350 to £400 max, def no more.

What sort of games does she want to play?

That spec will cope fine with basic hidden object games, things like bejewelled and kids games.

It would struggle with the likes of the sims running on full graphics quality but would probably cope with settings turned to medium or low.

If she's more into games like COD, GTA etc. then it is nowhere near good enough and a much higher end laptop/PC or a console would be better.

No, not COD, GTA, just the older pc games, like Sims Magic and the other Sims games which came out years ago.

She has never played any games online but her friends play things like Minecraft, Farmerama etc, would she be able to play these type of games on this spec laptop?

I've not read up much on the latest pentium chips, but are you sure it comes with the intel 4000 hd and not just Intel HD? Are you specifically after a blu ray drive?

No, we don't need a blu ray drive, haven't got any blu ray disks! but it comes just so happens that it has one.

Correct - that processor has Intel HD Graphics. Although it makes little difference in the end, both are inadequate for (3D) gaming. You either need discrete graphics or an AMD A-x series processor.

Have you considered a desktop? - their graphics are usually much easier to get at a basic gaming level.

Maybe consider an advert on AVForums for second hand items?
