EDF impressed

Just wanted ro say that I switched from Scottish Power to EDF in June through moneysaving's comparison club.

Put in a meter reading on Saturday and got a bill via email today.
It is the first time in as long as I've been a home owner (10 years) that I could easily see from my bill exactly what rate I was paying per kwh and standing charge, what tariff I was on and when it expires. Well laid out and slightly overpaying so reducing my DD immediately.

Only complaint is that they didn't ask for meter reading. Going to try to remember to do it on pay day every month to keep accurate record of usage. But otherwise impressed.:T

If you keep entering the readings on the monthly day they request your actual balance will alter immediately so you can keep up to date with your credit and alter your direct debit to suit yourself.
    No waiting for bills etc.
Best system i have used for monitoring usage etc.
Over £200 in credit but i cannot see any point in requesting it as it will soak up a bit of the increase yet to be given by EDF..i presume it will be soon.
  • The last I heard was that EDF billing was total and utter garbage.

    Has it improved so much?

I have been considering switching to them on their 2017 fix, it's just the thought of nearly £20 a month more is difficult for me to stomach. By the end of this month, I will be switched to SP standard so it will go up anyway and there won't be any reason to wait. There isn't really, I should start it in motion. However I'm still contemplating the option.

Only been with them a couple of years, but working ok for me. I'm away a lot of the time so meter readings are infrequent, but they have adjusted DDs quickly (usually down) after entering readings.

Thing that could annoy is they don't (automatically) refund overpayment, just set a lower DD until it catches up. Dunno if they refund if you call/email them, never been massively enough out for me to bother. When I was with BG, they used to do an annual check, then either refund any credit or up the DD to soak up any debt.

I had been with scottish power since we bought this house 7 years ago and n power at previous house. Always found it near impossible to see exactly what rate I was paying & when fixed deals ran out.

This bill from EDF was very clear. I'm only electric as don't have mains gas (& they have given me a discount for that?!) fixed til Feb 2015 on their no early leaving fees and they (apparently) will tell me if can save elsewhere.

Blue gives you a great deal. But if there’s a new tariff that can save you more than £1 a week at typical consumption, we’ll let you know†. And if you want to switch, we won’t charge you a termination fee.

† The £1 cheaper a week promise is based on comparing electricity only or dual fuel Blue tariffs against new competitor tariffs (i.e. launched since you joined or your last price alert notification) on equivalent payment methods and at typical annual consumption (defined as 3,300kWh for Standard meter electricity and 16,500 kWh for Standard meter gas, and as 5,000 kWh for Economy 7 meter electricity). Where this results in the competitor tariff being more than £52 less per year, than the Blue +Price promise tariff, this will be treated as the competitor tariff being more than £1 cheaper a week.

With blue newer tariffs you can switch whenever you want at no charge.

There is no early termination fee with this tariff

Of my last energy suppliers, none have auto refunded. npower before moving to my current home 8-9 years back, British Gas & possibly npower but I cannot remember who the electric was with when I moved in, then SSE and finally with Scottish Power. I always had to telephone them to get them to refund.

I'm in credit now so a refund will be due when I switch, if SP don't have a better deal in place very soon which I doubt.

If I am going to pay £20 a month more, I want a deal which has a long run so I can get the best opportunity to recoup the extra payments. npower's deal is the longest, running into the early winter of 2017 and therefore gives more time to get my money's worth from the deal.

However npower do seem to do some pretty appalling things which I don't fancy. I saw a WatchDog programme where they "broke" into people's homes to check the meter after not bothering to arrange appointments when the resident had attempted to arrange for them to check the meter. Silly things like that do npower a lot of damage IMO. I never had a problem with them 8-9 years ago when I was with them but I'm just one person, many people have complained about the treatment that they have received.

It's about time I took the plunge, it's just that £16 to £17 a month more than I'm currently paying and £22 more than I'm currently using that I'm reluctant to jump into.
