car side window broken? claim on insurance do it outside?

hi i have a dilemma and hope some one in the know can give a suggestion here.
Lastnight someone broke my car side window glass. I reported it to the police and obtained a claim reference number as well.

Now i got a fully comp tesco car insurance and should i be ok to go with autoglass to get it repaired by only paying excess on my insurance policy? tesco asks to pay only the first £75 and autoglass would quote the same and when i asked auto glass if i did not use my tesco policy auto glass quoted £180 odd pounds.

is it worth to go through the insurance claim policy?i am worried in case if premiums would jack up.....i have a 5 yrs NCD protected.

from what i gather if i claim on tesco insurance by only paying the excess for windscreen replacement, that constitute as a claim and only one claims can be made and after the claim the protecttion will go away.....i am only 3 months into the 12 months policy...

can anyone suggest
1. is it worth claiming on tesco insurance policy or getting it repaired outside and never bother to inform tescos
2. claiming on tesco insurance policy would it push teh premiums high
3. claiming on tesco insurance would void the NCB protection i got?

please your help is greatly appreciated.
thanks

Check your policy wording to see if a glass claim has any effect on the NCD protection "lives".

Also check by way of dummy quotes with and without the claim what difference it will make to your premium (the claim has to be declared for 3/5 years)

Then see what a local independent will charge for doing the repair (should be cheaper than Autoglass).

Then you can make the decision.

Part of the Furniture 10,000 Posts Name Dropper
Goto a local scrappy they will fit you one for £30 or less.

It maybe classed as a theft claim not glass. So whats the excess on that?

Plus increased premiums for the next few years, And the need to declare it for upto 5 years.

  • Its a glass claim, even if the broken glass caused scratches to the car. Only if there is a claim for theft of items from the car would it move into the realms of a theft claim

Some insurers do rate on a glass claim. I switched to Tesco this year and inbetween buying the policy and it coming into force I had a glass claim. Called Tesco to notify them, they added it to their records and it didnt impact my premiums at all.
