Hi
I was just wondering if my partners tax code is correct and I don't have a clue so can you please help me.
My partners 4 weekly wage was 1500
Tax was 312
NI was 102
Is this correct?
His tax code is 846/T1
This is his only job.
Thanks in advance

Actually that's his tax reference
His tax code is 0T
I'm not sure what it means0 -
There is an HMRC smartphone app that will calculate your tax and ni liability quite simply.
Basic rate code is 944 so it looks like your partner may be overpaying.0 -
Your partners yearly salary is about £19.5k so in theory his income tax should be about £2000 p.a after allowances.
Sounds like your partner is on a temporary coding.0 -
Do you know how long a temporary code takes to sort itself out?
He's been there since June0 -
Looks like your partner hasn't had any tax allowances at all.
You need to contact your local tax office and employer for advice.
He could be credited with a nice rebate which would be quite useful for the Festive Season!!
They can usually sort it out pretty quickly these days.
Good Luck.0 -

standard code for some-one with one job is 944L which give a tax free allowance of 9440 per annum
a 0T means no tax free allowance so he is paying too much tax
this code is usually given where HMRC think you have two jobs
Has he changed jobs this tax year or been on JSA?
anyway phone HMRC and say he has only one job and give the details0 -

If not look forward to a tidy rebate.0 -

Does he have a P45 from last job that he could hand in to current employer?
If not then ask employer for starter declaration (or P46) to get onto emergency tax code and then contact tax office hopefully to speed up issue of correct tax code and details.0 -
Happened to me when I changed jobs, HMRC assumed I was working both jobs and I ended up with now allowance. A quick call to HMRC sorted it out.0
