I have got the above error on my laptop and cannot get it fixed at all. I switch it on and cannot even get to the log in screen either, tried to get to 'safe mode' but that doesn't work either.
The error states there is a problem with a CD/DVD rom and USB port. Please someone help me as I'm at a loss and helpless without this laptop now.
Thanks.

Could be a hard disk problem - if you need a new one (which depends on your answers) here's some http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Storage/cat/Hard-Drive---Internal/subcat/2.5%22-SATA-Drives
Does this happen before windows starts or tries to start or can you get to the F8 safe mode options, what is the exact message.
any discs in the cd/dvd drive?
make and model of machine?
Got a windows disc?!!

''This is error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as a external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.
If you continue to receive this message, contact the hardware manufacturer.''
No disk in now, managed to get that out. But as for the safe mode, I cant get there. I press F8 and it just does nothing.
Its an Advent Modena laptop0 -

Do you need to recover any data from the hard disk?
Do you have another pc available to burn a disc? and a blank dvd?
None of the F8 options work at all, ie you can't get to the F8 menu?
Was it 64 or 32 bit W7?!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
It is a 64bit W7.
Yes need to recover a few things off the hard-drive so cant just get rid of it and replace it.
Do have another laptop i can use to burn something and I can find a blank dvd.
F8 literally doesn't work, press it and it brings nothing up at all.0 -

Someone may be able to help you with the W7 disc shortly, in the meantime, download rk_free.exe (don't click on softpedia adverts) from the link above, and create the boot cd, assuming the HD is ok, it might help you recover data, and the boot corrector problem could possibly help
rk_free fits (you have to run it to create the disc, don't just burn it to a disc as it won't boot) on a cd, but you can use a dvd too
for future reference a disk image backup and a macrium boot cd would have been (ie created when the machine was working) very useful in this situation http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx!!

Do you have the means to download and create a recovery disc?

Don't think it's an issue with the OS, but will plant the Advent recovery disc in the appropriate place.0
