First Utility: pay what you consume?

Hi,

For First-Utility iSave Fixed v11:
Does anyone know if it's possible to pay the actual energy consumption, rather than a fixed direct debit spread out over the year?
(We're a houseshare, and would like to keep things fair for when people move in or out mid-year).

Thanks very much!

    What difference does it make?

You take readings on every change of tenancy. See how much has been used for the duration of each period. Check everyone has paid their share. If there is a balance on the account when someone leaves then refund them some money from those who remain's next month's contributions. If there is a shortfall then request it from the leaver.

Or you can pay on receipt of bill if you like. As they avoid telling you the cost through comparison sites or on their site I suspect it will be a non trivial excess charge. You still need to do fancy sums when paying quarterly, anyway. It only takes three or five minutes so you may as well grab the cheaper price for direct debits.

    Yes you can

Because I was having a surplus each month I now pay first utility a variable direct debit each month on what I use One dis advantage now winter is here I shall be paying double the amount I would normally be paying if it was spread over 12 months So take your pick
  • Thanks for your replies.

George1939: Since you are with FirstUtility, could I ask you: Is there an excess charge for paying a variable direct debit? (Like Nada666 suggested).

Or is it the same kWh price as when paying a fixed monthly?

There is no excess charge for the variable direct debit. 3 months age I had a credit surplus £204 they paid it into my bank account within days. I then asked for and got a variable account and now each month I pay for what I use . This at the present time suits me say this month if you sent in a read on the 30th October .They estimate the one day short . Very accurate .The bill is spot on with usage and cost and so easy to read and you can go back 12 months of reads and monthly costs Great statement site Great
