Toys for 11 and 5 year old American boys?

OH & I are due to visit his half-brother and family in the States in a couple of weeks. We'd like to take some small presents for the boys, who are 5 and 11. We last saw them 2 years ago and I'm sure they'll have grown up a lot in this time, and are probably now into different things (it was all toy planes/trains for the younger one and angry birds for the older one at that time).

Can anyone suggest any suitable toys(smallish in size so they can go in our cases)? Maybe something that's really popular over here but might be a bit different to what all their friends have in the USA?

I'm totally stuck! Looked at Argos but the most popular toy in the 9-12 age range is a Call of Duty model tank, which I refuse to buy someone of that age having had to put up with my OH playing it constantly!

Many thanks :)

I'd suggest something classic, like one of the UNO games or maybe even a Rubik's cube.

If the younger one is into cars I would get him some English emergency service vehicles. Police car, fire engine. Or maybe a ES dressing up outfit. His friend won't have those.

Will have a think about the older one.

    Children's books by British authors?
  • How about a Super Dry back pack for the 11 year old?

For the 5 year old, I would get the emergency vehicles from the UK and a couple of dressing up outfits for uk emergency services.

Cadbury's Dairy Milk. Alongside Hershey's, it'll taste like Godiva!
  • I've sent presents to my American friends in the past and Jaffa cakes have always gone down well! Also Cadbury's is a lot sweeter and they love it!

Why not just take some little sweets like this and then take them out on a special trip to the Mall to pick something out with them. You'll get more for your money and save space in your luggage. You'll also be sure they are getting something they really want and can enjoy some quality time with just them.

  • I'd take a selection of confectionary (mars bar, double decker, crunchie etc) and footballs, but they're not exactly small!

I also think a Beano annual, Deadly 60 book with a matching Top Trumps set or David Walliams book would go down really well, and they are a good size!

You can also buy t-shirts with union flags on them in Primark very cheaply which they might like.

Chocolate as American chocolate is mostly horrible.

Maybe some Horrible History books? The British police cars etc are a good idea.
