Should i Switch EDF Tarrifs Now?

I'm currently on EDF's Blue Tariff fix till March 2014 & paying £76 per month duel fuel.

I've done a comparision site quote & if I switched to the Blue Tariff fix till March 2015 it would cost approx. £5 per month more.

If I switch to the Blue Freeze 2017 it will cost approx. £10 per month more.

Assuming EDF put up their prices soon would you think its worthwhile coming out of my current fix which is penalty free now before they do that & sign up to one of the other tariffs. It will cost me an additional £25 or £50 to do this depending on which one I switch to over the 5 remaining months, or would it probably be best to see out the remainder of my current fix & see what Fixed deals they have come March.

Would you assume that EDF will stop these 2 fixed deals when they increase standard prices and introduce more costly ones to replace them?

Many Thanks.

Switching now will cost you more than £25/£50 because the months you are missing out on if you move from your current cheaper tariff are winter months when you will use a lot more than in the summer.

The Quotes that ive done via uswitch are based on my current annual usage divided by 12 to arrive at the direct debit monthly charge? They show a figure of £5/£10 per month extra based on my usage.

    Many Thanks

But if your annual consumption pattern is like mine, you will use nearly all your gas in the next six months.

Quite right and this is where people a missing out on the much cheaper 5/6 months of utility usage as i found the gas usage nearly triples in the following months.

Indeed. I use iMeasure to record my weekly meter readings, so I can see that I use about 90%+ of my annual gas kWh in the winter months.

I am really tempted to move tariff but I'd be paying more for it and losing my 6% DD (or duel fuel, I forget) discount.
  • Mmmm! Is a teaser! I've jumped from EDF March 2014 to EDF March 2015. Still in cooling period and revert back if i wish.

Approx figures tell me going to cost me approx £120 per year for privilege so roughly approx £90 for next 5 months i'd guess. Then another £120 to to take me to March 2015. Haven't even looked at a 2017. Good luck to those on that but too long term/costly for my liking. If that proves to be a good financial move then i think the brown stuff will really hit the air conditioning.

Thanks folks for the replies, think i'll probably just stick with my fix till March & see what there is on offer then!
  • I've been wrestling with the same dilemma, and decided to stick with what I've got until next year. Who knows, the prices may have fallen again come spring!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
