Urgent Help Needed :Tax Credits slow to work out claim... please help

Hi, If someone could help me here I would be grateful.

6 weeks ago I requested a new claim pack from tax credits as the father of my child moved in with me. They stopped my claim straight away. Then unexpectedly my son was admitted to hospital and I didnt get round to sending back the forms untill the 4th june. I sent it first class and put a note with it explaining why i had taken so long and that i hadnt recieved any tax credits since the end of april. I keep phoning them but they say they cant tell me if they have reiceved it on not until 14 days after it was sent. I then spoke to somebody else this morning who said he couldnt tell me untill it had been 21 days.

On top of this my partner got emergency taxed as his employer had forgotten to send off the P46 forms to the tax office - leaving him with £28 pounds this fornight when it should have been £240.

My child is in nursey so I had to pay off some of that and nobody at the tax credits office seems to understand that I have no money. They told me that the tax office updates their computers and that they dont have a phone line for them and so no way of knowing if they even recieved my claim.

Is there anyway I can find out as I would rather know if they got it or not so I can send them another one. The longer it goes on the longer I don't get any of my tax credits and the more the nursery fees build up and they start asking for money.

Has anyone else been in this situation??
Sorry this is so long-winded but I cant get anyone to help me so all suggestions welcome.

Thanks

thanks lol i have been ringing and ringing. I spoke to them on monday to be told they were transferring my case to the tax office and to call back in a couple of days. So today I rang back and was told the case was never logged with the tax office but she would do it today - so when i naively asked if i should ring back in a couple of days to see how it went (which is how long i was told it would take the first time) she actually laughed and said - no it'll take two weeks.

I told her I didnt think it was very funny as have only £26 in my bank account until i get paid on the 29th. I asked who i could speak to as they must have dealt with lots of cases like mine considering their reputation. She told me I couldnt speak to anyone as they case has now been transferred to the tax office. I told her I needed to get a new claim form as I would apply again as I couldnt afford to live - she said I couldnt do that as I couldnt have 2 applications in at the same time - even though they cant find my original ..... it is now logged on the system that i have sent one in... the mind boggles

So I got off the phone, calmed down a bit then rang back and lodged a complaint only to be told there were no managers available and I would be called back within the hour - I told them I had to speak with someone before 11am as I would then be going off to work. Of course noone has rung me - not within the hour and it also looks like not before I go to work either - so than is another day gone and no information learned.

I cant go the the CAB as i go to work at 11 and my office doesnt open till 10 so i dont have any rime. I really dont know what to do -- its getting to the point where I will have no more money to buy food...

i have no ideas about the tax credits but there must be an error about your partners tax. No one pays 90% income tax. Even on emergency tax he would only have paid 22% of the amount earned, thus on £100 tax could possibly have been £22 paid. I would suggest he speaks to the payroll department.

Really?? I hadn't thought about that. I'll get him to have another look at his payslip and talk to his boss. He definetly should have got £200 + and only had £28.

did he have to work time in hand? That could explain why he got less than expected.

    Hello,

With regards to the original post, our guidance clearly states that if a customer has sent in an application form and it has been over 2 weeks since it was posted then a refferal has to be sent to the Tax Credits Office stating that their is no claim showing for the customer. In theory this would mean they would check all applications manually to find yours and log it on manually to speed things up. Unfortunately, the initial advisor(s) you spoke to have palmed you off (they obviously dont care and am probably in the wrong job). I would suggest you wait a few days now because it seems a refferal of some sort has been sent. Hopefully this will result in your application being logged onto the system. I would advise you continue with your complaint, and again, guidance clearly states if a customer wishes to speak to a Team Leader/Manager they have that right. Also, its not much of a consilation, but your claim should automatically backdate to the day after your partner moved in because you have re-applied within 3 months. I hope this helps.

Ps, When your claim is eventually on the system and an advisor tells you it is awaiting award, ask if their are any Verification Failures on the new claim as this is a common problem that holds claims up, and of so the advisor should then send the necessary refferals to have them removed.

PPs, I promise you were not all bad ;-p
