I have been reading the pregnancy threads but there doesn't seem to be anywhere for us first time grandparents or veterans to share our experiences and questions.
My first grandchild is due on the 6th April 2014 :T

Well, I'm not a first-timer as I already have a beautiful little granddaughter who'll be 2 tomorrow, but I've got another due January 14th, if I'm allowed to join:)0

Huge congratulations. I am hoping to not be a grandparent for quite a while!
The most helpful thing I have found that gp can do for my preschooler is be available at very short notice. Like today, grandad is picking up dd from nursery for me as I need to be elsewhere. It is so good to not have to organise everything a million years in advance. (DD's grandparents do have a life of their own of course and they can say no to short notice requests without feeling guilty). Also, sometimes is DD is a little ill - too ill perhaps for a full nursery day but not ill enough for bed, it is great when go can take the pressure off.
It all depends how close you live, I guess. DS has a gp miles away who loves and supports him every bit as much but in a different way because of the practicalities of the situation.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

Thanks everyone! I am currently 260 miles away from my DD and put the house up for sale so we can move closer

Congratulations. I have five grandkids, all born over the last eight years. They are all an absolute delight!
The one small word of warning I would give is regarding any financial gift you might make to the new born. My husband and I were so thrilled, we made quite a generous gift. Naturally, we have had to do the same for the subsequent four others:) Luckily, it has not caused us any hardship but it is as well to be aware IMHO. We always treat every child exactly the same whenever possible.0
