Missing Faster Payment

We sent a payment from a Post Office Easy Saver account to our Derbyshire B/S Account a few days ago. Despite everyone agreeing that we used the correct recipient details, the payment never arrived.
The Derbyshire say they rejected the payment because the reference field (our account number) contained a string of numbers they did not recognise. The Post Office are adamant that the payment contained the correct reference when it left them.
I now have to wait until the PO trace the funds and re send them (and hope the same does not happen again).
Anyone had any similar experience? As the amount is about 25k we have a loss of interest but not sure who to press for compensation as neither party will accept they have done anything wrong.

I suspect the additional characters are probably the reference added by whoever processes these transactions on behalf of the Post Office. The Bank of Ireland, I believe.0

Good luck with that one."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0
