in Credit cards
Hello all,
In 5 weeks I jet off to New York with my wife for a week for my 40th birthday. I had planned to have lots of money to spend from my savings, but life and 2 teenage kids have conspired against me so I now will only have £1000 cash (maximum) to spend on meals, tips etc etc. Obviously while I'm over there she want to do lots of christmas shopping and take advantage of black Monday. I currently have a Marks and Spencer credit card which I use to get M&S points which I like. Will this be accepted in America? I'm open to suggestions about the following:
Regards,
Richard.

- What is the best credit card that will be accepted everywhere in New York?
- What Credit Card offers the best rate of exchange for purchases in America?

Presumably your M&S card is a Mastercard, so no problem using that. Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

Don't go overboard on the Spends/Christmas Shopping for goods to bring back as you are only allowed a small amount each if you want to go through Nothing To Declare at customs. (remember Coleen Rooney back in 2004 who bought back £1,000 of shopping when she was only allowed £147! Not sure what the limit is now no doubt gone up but worth checking before you go).
Never had an issue using the CC card anywhere in NY.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -

Agreed, you can easilly get away with no cash in NYC. You can tip by card in all restaurants as well. Bare in mind though if you don't have an American Express, the odd restaurant will only take Amex.
It's all still swipe and sign in the US and no signature is required for most purchases under 50 USD. If your card is a bit old and the magnetic stripe is a bit scratched up, you might want to ask for a replacement as it might not read.0 -
The allowance from the USA is now £390 a person0
