There is a trade-off, as always, between cost and satisfaction. I found a huge drop in frustration when i moved to W7 from Vista so would hope you found the same. Whether it is worth it is up to you. I'd do what closed suggests and post a hijackthis log, he'll let you know of problems.I regularly run a Anti-Malware/virus scan, but when you Google this problem it seems to be endemic. As this is a Money Saving site how much does it cost to bin Vista and install Windows 7 then ?
As the issue appears endemic (you say), then an alternative player is the cheapest and simplest solution. Just type "get vlc" into google and off you go.
hope this helps!Friendly greeting!0 -

Without any details, you're unlikely to get very far, "stopped working" can mean many things.!!

My Vista lappy is fine with WMP11, never had any problems. I do also use VLC, but I've found Media Player Classic is every bit as good; it comes bundled with Klite Codec pack which may fix some of your problems as you may be missing some codecs.
If it's a Vista problem I'd suggest doing a sfc or a Vista repair (not a restore to factory settings which is a last resort.0 -
