Sorn and retaxing
Hello people!
I declared my car SORN for roughly 9 weeks as I quite frankly was not going to use it. Just before I declared the car SORN I moved house to a different area ( roughly 40 minutes away in the car) .
Now, two things I have changed my license address but during the moving process lost the V5C form and had to send off to have another one (Which came yesterday).
I insured the car on Saturday (26/10/13) and was told that when the insurance documents arrive I can pop down to the local Post Office and change the V5C to my current address and get the car taxed. My Post Office told me that they do not offer these services ( there is no other Post Office in the area unless you drive 40 mins)
Can I send off for a tax disk online? If I do though, it means traveling back to my old address ( my mother's house) to pick it up. If I can't do that I am not sure what I can do apart from sending off the V5C again and waiting another 4 weeks to have it returned before taxing it at this address!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I am in a little bit of a rut here!!

I'd tax it at your mothers house then change the address to your current address. I'd also wait until the 1st to save yourself a month of tax. VED always starts from the 1st and will be backdated to the 1st October to expire on the 30th September next year if you got one today.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.0 -
If you renew the licence on-line, there is a 14 day grace period for the offence of failing to display the licence. Could you visit your old address and collect it within those 14 days and then update the V5C?0

You need a renewal notice to tax online, if you don't have them you can't retax online. SORN over rules a previous reminder. You have to take the SORN off firstPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
