Cant get in touch with British Gas

I've just moved house and the existing energy supplier is british gas. I have arranged to switch ASAP but in the mean time I gather I must continue with BG until the switch is complete.
The problem is I don't seem to be able to get in touch with BG to get my account sorted. I've tried phoning through to the home moving team but I cant get through their automatic system to speak to a person. I tried calling the sales line but all they will do is transfer me to the home movers team and their system then drops the call. I even tried emailing through their website but there has been no reply.
What should I do here? I guess if they want payment they could always write to me. Am I under any obligation to chase this any further?

This is the exact problem I'm having. Got my keys on Friday but haven't managed to speak to anyone yet.
Tried again during my lunch break (and called the wrong number) and got told to try mid afternoon, as they should be less busy then.
Hoping to get this sorted sooner rather than later.0 -
Had same with BG last week, every time I called I was told very busy with 15/20 minutes waiting time, eventually got through after waiting 35 minutes (left phone on speaker while I got on with other things).0

Just tried again on 0800 048 0202. Can't seem to actually select an option that doesn't involve entering an account number, which I don't have. I just waited a few minutes then got put into a 25 minute queue which I don't have time for now.0

Wierd that the utility switching teams would be busy at the moment ;-)
Just sign up with whoever you want to go with and you will get a final bill drop through your door when the switch completes.0 -
I e-mailed them with a complex query a coupe of months ago through the contact us tab on the internet - I got a comprehensive reply within 24 hours and they resolved my query.
I'm not sure if this is something that you could try?Aiming to get healthy in 2014.0
