Car owned last 5 years
All MOTs
All service records
Price (£6k) is decent but 17% above Webuyanycar etc. ( I have no issue with this only mentioning it to show that it is not a £10k car offered for £3k etc.
Was also listed on ebay with ebay ID 2 years old but with only 5 comments. All positive as buyer.
but
Owner is seller's wife
She has signed V5C
She is abroad (France)
They are emigrating / he is back in UK selling house etc.
and
Have not run HPI yet
Have not run electoral record check yet
Haven't asked for ID or official post etc.
I like the motor and the price is fair though I'd hope for a little off. However, the set up is potentially worrying.
He doesn't want cash but bank to bank transfer. I'm ok with this if done from my laptop or in his bank via my debit etc.
I haven't bought privately for donkeys years so I'm trying to work out whether this is genuine or a set up. My gut is 50/50 but if I get ID, do HPI, they check out on electoral roll and have official paperwork plus MOTs and service at Glynn Hopkins check out, am I pretty well in the clear ?
Or have I missed something glaringly obvious ?

The bank to bank transfer is no issue.
Knowing someones bank account number and sort code is something we give out on every cheque.
If that is still a concern, pay cash in to his account in his bank.
The wife being the owner and having already signed the v5 maybe an issue.
It could be her car that she is unaware he is selling. The signature done by him.0 -
Seller wouldn't even give out an address whilst saying loads of others interested. Seemed defensive when I mentioned running checks.
What do they expect ? just rock up and hand over the cash and not bother checking who you are dealing with ?0
