Santa....what do/did you tell your children?

I must have missed those!
Hopefully we can discuss a light hearted topic without someone feeling the need to go for the jugular
.
My oldest is nearly 3, so time for me to get my 'story' straight I suppose. My neighbour said that she has never told her children about Santa, apart from the fact that he's a made-up person, and I was curious to see how unusual this is.
It wasn't quite the same thing I don't think, but it was about whether you would lie to your children, and basically I seem to remember it turned into a big argument about the fact that the Father Christmas (or tooth fairy, etc....) thing is lying to your children.
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
Oh dear I hope this thread doesn't go the way of others on this sort of topic have in the past!!
It's an MSE pre-Christmas tradition though.... I'm debating whether to start a thread on how much people spend on presents for kids, just to keep the spirit going...
DD was disbelieving at 8 so I confessed and told her it was me but at 9 has said she doesn't believe me and thinks he's real.0 -
I finally drew a line under stockings about a year ago as we had a child's partner sleeping here on Christmas Eve! Stockings only always came from Father Christmas and we did the full mince pie/glass of sherry ( very necessary when they won't go to sleep and its already 2.00am!) carrot for the reindeer bit. Ours are 26,25 and 22 btw. We are an imaginative family and I don't think anyone has been scarred ......and who really knows about the magic and the mystery...0

To this day I still believe in the SPIRIT of Christmas. I remember as a child, asking my parents whether Father Christmas was real, it was answered with the idea of the day I stop believing, is the day I stop receiving.
My Son is too young to grasp the idea of Christmas, yet up until he is old enough to understand the concept for himself, the magic of Father Christmas will remain as part and parcel of the Spirit of Christmas, as it has always been throughout the generations of our family.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Personally, I find that a mean thing to say and to me it makes it more about the parent not wanting to lose this part of Christmas than about accepting that if the child is old enough to be asking then they've highly likely already worked it out or already been told by someone. I can't say I've ever met anyone who gives a child less just because they don't believe in FC anymore'I remember as a child, asking my parents whether Father Christmas was real, it was answered with the idea of the day I stop believing, is the day I stop receiving.0 -
My little boy is only 18 months I can't wait until he's older and I can tell him about Father Christmas! I myself only realised Santa wasn't real when I was 11 and I recognised my mums handwriting on the from Santa tag haha! I'm going to tell my son that Santa brings the stocking and tells mummy and daddy what he wants. I want him to appreciate the time and money spent and preferably not pick things way out of out budget!0

No, I cannot imagine anyone does. Its why even at my age, I still get a stocking at the bottom of my bed from Father Christmas. :cool:Personally, I find that a mean thing to say and to me it makes it more about the parent not wanting to lose this part of Christmas than about accepting that if the child is old enough to be asking then they've highly likely already worked it out or already been told by someone.
