Bathroom door expansion

Hi
Our bathroom door is very difficult to close and open as it looks like it has expanded due to seasonal variations
I don't have a manual or wood paner. Can i do this using Sandpaper or I need a paner. . I probably only need to remove 2/3 mm from a 10 inch long section on side of door
What Sandpaper grade do I need. Will sanding block work?
Other option is to exchange it with one of the other doors of house which we don't close. But I will need to change door locks and somehow lengthen the lock panel insert on side of old door as the bathroom door has latch.

I'd invest in a plane, much easier to take a few mm off that way than sand it down. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0

Using sandpaper will take you a week and you'll end up with a right arm like Garth. Get a planer.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

I would also make sure that there are no leaks or dampness causing the swelling. My bathroom door stopped closing properly and on closer inspection the grout between the tiles in the shower had failed and water had soaked the base of the wall next to the door. It had caused the timber studwork to expand. Once the leak was fixed and the wall dried out it went back to normal.Solar install June 2022, Bath

That and a pack of assorted grades of sandpaper should do it albeit probably not very well unless you are willing to spend a lot of time sanding.
But and it's a big but, you really really need to find out what's caused your door to expand, an internal house door doesn't have much timber in it in the first place and I would be very surprised if you could get one to expand enough not to fit in its frame without something being wrong somewhere.
Are you sure the frame hasn't moved?
Is the wall damp?
Is there enough ventilation?
Have the screw's in the hinges come lose?
I would want to find the cause because I suspect your door problems are a symptom and curing symptoms without curing the cause is never really a good idea.0 -

As far as I know bathroom is Ventilated best we can. It has to Windows and extractor fan. Tiles are stable and grout in good condition. It still closes but very Stiff. It gets stuck only in part of door on the side.
Why do u say it will take lot of time, even with a plane?

Hi xyz
I think we are in same situation, most of the doors I have are starting to expand, I would also not sand it, prob is the bottom part of door, if that has expanded too like in my case it has, I would have to take the doors off its hinges and then shave it a little to be able to fit it back on.
But do check the hinges once.0 -

Am also in the same boat! have you done anything at all? will the tool suggested by OP work?0 -
Just buy/rent/borrow/steal a plane. The surform won't be much quicker than sandpaper.
The door is swollen probably because it isn't sealed (ie painted or varnished) on the bottom or top edge. This commonly gets missed out on internal doors but is essential on a bathroom door as steam can penetrate in to the timber this way.
You need to take the door off, plane it, then redecorate on the planed edge and make sure you seal the open edges.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
I think the problem is that in most modern doors that aren't composite construction, The wood is still growing.!!!0
