Chimney cowl came off.

Well it just disappeared actually . I'm assuming it blew off and is languishing in a nearby field.
It is an old stone property with a solid fuel stove and a lined chimney.
The cowl was fitted a few years back after a problem with nesting birds. Actually I can't remember if there was a cowl of any description there beforehand.
I've not had a quote yet but I've seen prices between £80 - £100 for supply and fitting (please don't suggest I go up on the roof myself :eek:)
The draught at the mo seems fine so the main issues would be protection against weather and birds :huh:
I will be putting the house on the market within the next 6 months.
1) Would you go to the expense of replacing it?
2) Is is worthwhile trying a buildings insurance claim?

Yes get it replaced, lined chimneys should have a cowl on them to stop birds and to stop water ingress down the liner. Find your local chimney sweep and get them to do it for you.

I wouldn't bother going the insurance route for the sake of a £100 quid or so.
