Try Ebay under "Jacques Vert". For £20 or under you can get a really gorgeous dress and jacket, that you could keep for weddings afterwards!

If you need to curtsey, try this:
Slide your left leg bent slightly at the knee slightly behind your right leg keeping a gap between them
As you do this your right knee will automatically bend and you'll do a curtsey
Have a practice and have fun
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I need to know what to wear! I have had the invitation and it says that the Ladies should wear a dress/ trouser suit with a hat but what type of dress does this mean?
I would like to get one which I can wear again, (:money: !) but I do also want to look suitably formal and not too casual.
Any help would be gratefully recieved!
i started up this thread again how did it go?and what did you end up wearing as im going to garden party at buckingham palace in july
  • My sister had an invite to a summer garden party at BP a couple of years ago. She spent weeks trawling all the shops in various towns searching for a suitable outfit. She eventually found one with a matching hat and spent more on matching shoes and handbag. She travelled down to London the night before and stayed in a nearby hotel so on the day she had lots of time to get ready.
They set off feeling like a million dollars and got into the lift on the 7th floor, on the 2nd floor the lift stopped to allow another passenger in AND guess what...........YES the other guest was also going to the garden party wearing the exact same outfit.
Well they all nearly cried and felt so down hearted but as they had only 30 minutes to get to BP, plus neither had another change of outfit anyway, they really had no choice but to continue on.
As they were walking down the streets of London, obviously all together by this point they had to laugh at the irony of it all as they could feel all eyes on them .
So don't want to put you off but don't buy an outfit from any well know dept stores or wedding outfit shops.

I think you have to have done something charitable - like giving up tons of time.

My great aunt had about 10 invites to BP but she hated the royal family so never went - strange thing is she kept all her invitations. My great aunt did a lot of work in getting votes for women and setting up trade unions whereever she worked (not bad for an old gal really - and she always looked so innocent)

You can be nominated by a Lord Lieutenant too-my parents went to a couple (I was at 1 of them too as I was an unmarried daughter!) and it came about through my dad being nominated, but not for charity stuff.

Having been to 2 BP garden parties in relation to the Duke of Edinburgh's award the first at the age of 20 & then 2 years ago at the age of 31 i had a similar dilemma I brought a floaty dress that I could wear for a wedding along with a smart light coloured jacket, I managed to get a hat that I like & suited me at a reasonable price reduced in BHS but there were many ladies wearing the feathery/ flowered hair pieces that looked amazing. My advise is to wear comfortable lowish heeled shoes.
