OS Daily Sunday 27th October 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning TTFTM and all who follow,

    Molly, Hilstep Hugs.

Keep safe to all of you in the path of the storm, I think we are just on the edge of it.

Off to church in a minute, I was up early due to the hour change and then I intend to spend the day tidying up the garden and cooking a roast dinner for tonight.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

    Morning :hello:

It was really windy last night, for just a few minutes the rain was almost horizonal :D There's a slight breeze at the moment. I've filled up the girls' feeder and drinker, they're not interested though, too busy digging for worms :D

I picked just over 3lb of tomatoes yesterday. I can't believe they're still producing fruit. We've had 52lb of them, I've just checked Asda's price for salad tomatoes (£2 per kilo) and I've saved £47 :D More than that really, because I suppose homegrown are vine ripened, which are more expensive. Mr tru pulled up some leeks but I haven't weighed them yet. When we've picked the sprouts, I'm going to do totals for everything then see what it would've cost in the supermarket.

Mr tru has made pie filling - beef, mushroom and a bottle of Tribute ale :D Most of it won't make it into a pie, it's lovely by itself so I'll serve it with mash and peas.

I can't decide whether to snuggle down on the sofa at lunchtime and catch up with CSI NY, or go to the pub :D decisions, decisions........

    Morning all!

Was up at 5 this morning. Oh the joys of having a boyfriend who starts work at 6 on a Sunday!

House is cleaned, dog is walked and washed. Dinner is defrosting as is lunch. Veggie hot dogs for lunch and peppered quorn steaks with mash for dinner.

Might make a soup later, but the lovely clean kitchen puts me off cooking!

Plan for the rest of the day is find a good book to get lost in.

    Have a lovely Sunday!

    Morning all

Lovely and sunny here ATM very blustery. The garden is just a mass of yellowing leaves

Managed to to do some tidying in the garden yesterday , chopped down the raspberries and got rid of the courgette plants, moved anything that might blow away. And did a general tidy

The house is reasonably clean so I'm not going to to do any more housework today :D

Got a couple of cushions I want to make for dd1s bedroom so might get on with those later

Have a good day everyone xx

I did very little yesterday apart from 2 loads of washing and vacuuming upstairs and sweeping the stairs.
Plans for today include cooking roast lamb with all the trimmings and digging a hole in the kitchen and maybe altering another dress.
    Have a good day everyone.

  • Good morning everyone :)

I was up too early due to body clock not agreeing with the end of BST. Since then have been lost in my financial spreadsheets and catching up on other threads.

Weather looks like it will dry up my lunchtime so will give the washing a go outside for a couple of hours. It will be dark early tonight but it may be enough to get it partially dry.

GDD is coming to stay from tonight until Tuesday. DD wants me to go to collect her earlier so I can consider fancy dress costumes and make plans for how I am going to convert her £5 charity shop wedding dress into the Corpse Bride. I think she has greater faith in my skills than I do! GDD wants a Halloween costume too, so will have to see if I have anything I can use to make one for her or if we need to buy something. So much for my week off and a rest.

GDD wants a buffet style meal tonight so will be off the low carb for the day and eating hummus, koftas, falafel etc. We are going to make our own hummus as she loves learning to cook. Need to go and get some bits and pieces so will do that on the way to DD's. Oh and I need a pumpkin for DH to carve for GDD too.

Thanks for all the help with Facebook yesterday and for everyone who became my friend there.

Keep safe if you are the path of the storm heading our way.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs or just wants them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

  • Morning,(((((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))))) if you need one.

Bright but very windy, think we might get the full force of the weather tomorrow, so batten down the hatches and stay in. Hope its cleared by Tuesday we are due at DD2's for supper, DGD's birthday.

Getting OH into the shower in a mo and then out for a walk round the cul de sac, he will be getting up with me tomorrow, a week of waiting on is enough.

LL was here yesterday to fix a new fan in the bathroom, he was delighted with the garden, we have worked hard in it and it does look good. It will be even better next year when att the clematis are out on the fence.

Roast pork and veg for supper. I have a tin of blackberry and apple pie filling I got from AF, will put some more blackerries in it and a sponge mix on the top, will make enough dessert for 3 days.

    Morning all,

Very wet and windy here last night, today is very sunny atm, but we are due to be hit by the storm tonight / tomorrow.

I have 16 people coming here for food later, all relatives who have travelled down for the funeral, I shall do some cold roast chicken, ham + eggs, salad new pots, a selection of cheese bread crisps olives etc, they can all help themselves.

Got to clean right through the house first, dd and OH can help and hopefully it wont take too long, we have guests staying overnight too so all the beds will need changing.

Took 2 baskets of washing to the laundrette yesterday, I just did not want it hanging around whith people here, got it all dried for £4 which I thought was quite good, wont be a regular thing but its nice that its all done and away.

Fingers crossed the storm is not as bad as they say, and lets hope the funeral does not get cancelled !

    Have good days all xx

    Morning all!
A bit blowy here, and has been raining, a perfect stay at home day! Need to iron, and find something for dinner for myself. DD is in Edinburgh for the weekend, went to see the lion king on Friday night as a late birthday present. DS decided to rearrange his bedroom furniture yesterday, but didn't hoover first so will need to chase him to do that at some point, and try to get the piles of washing from his room dried.
Oh well, better shift myself, the changing of the clocks has added to my laziness today. Have a good day everyone.
    RIP Iain

Have had Radio 4 extra on all morning. I've decided that I must ask for a digital radio as a Christmas present. At the moment I'm tied to listening online and that means in the sitting room/office. It's been really good fun this morning - everything from 'All Gas and Gaiters' to Tintin to 'Ode to Joy' blasting out right now on a repeat of Desert Island Discs. There's no big interruptions for news/weather on 4extra which is very welcome - nice escapist listening.
Sunny, clear skies and very blustery so have 3 loads of washing on line. Rain is due to kick in mid afternoon so I think I'll go for getting a fourth done.:)
Going to dump, supermarket and garage then will spend rest of afternoon getting on with work I think.
