Considering CPU upgrade

Hoping for a bit of advice here, as looking to make some changes to my desktop.

Currently have an Intel i5-2320 running at 3 gHz. System uses a Fujitsu d2990-a1 motherboard, and is also using a 660ti graphics card. I'm now onto next stage of my upgrades, and want to probably do something with the CPU.

Any recommendations as to what to be looking for, and for compatibility? I had issues doing the graphics upgrade a few months ago (The MSI 660ti wouldn't work, subsequently found out they were overvolting them as standard!) and therefore don't want to get into difficulties. Never done a CPU upgrade before, so just want to make sure I get things right.

Main use is PC gaming (Fifa 14, GTA 5 when it comes out, possibly Final Fantasy 14).

After a lot of upgrading i now no longer bother and prefer putting the money away for a new system every so often .

+1 wuth above. It us usually very expensive, often with little improvement when you chase the bleeding edge if technology.

Was mainly a consideration on upping performance more. But, as the posts suggest, probably don't really need to do so right now then. Thanks!

Is your BIOS has overclock function? If yes, get i7-3770K with aftermarket heatsink for OC.

Instead of upgrade CPU, have you got SSD?
Also what PSU have you got?

Have you looked closely at your system to identify any performance bottlenecks?

There's little point in upgrading X if it's actually Y that is slowing things down.

Currently have a Corsair 600 watt PSU, no SSD though. Not entirely sure about overclocking on BIOS though.

It gets a bit iffy on higher end gaming, although with most things being online I'm unsure whether that's down to server lag or the PC. Currently have Infinity, and get a measured 76mb d/l and 17mb upload.
