I just came across this video on YouTube and was wondering if any other members have done this to speed up their pc.
Perhaps it may be of use to some who find they can't play certain games on their laptop/pc.

From the YT video,i got up to double the amount of ram out of my laptop which made me able to play high res games with no lag while using other pages and files!!!
This is complete nonsense - running a game at high resolution requires more than just ram, the processor and graphics card play a large part in this as well plus increasing the virtual memory is not going to make that much difference.
The two steps the person is recommending is to increase the paging file and using readyboost. The paging file is how much space is reserved on the hard drive for the computer to use if it runs out of ram, there's various thoughts on how much paging memory needs to be set but these days it tends to be fine left on its own in normal use. The problem with using a hard drive in place of ram is that the hard drive is much slower than ram so if the PC runs out of ram and has to rely on the paging file, it's going to slow down considerably regardless of how much paging memory is set.
Readyboost is a technology that allows Windows to use USB memory to compliment ram by providing a disk cache, the idea is that a faster USB drive is better suited to it than the slower hard drive. The benefits of it are mixed though.
If the system is running out of memory then by far the best solution if the system has accessible memory is to upgrade the ram particularly as the ram prices for current technology are reasonably cheap. It will stop the system from seriously bogging down but if it's not running out of memory it won't give a noticeable boost in performance and certainly not allow for better, higher resolution gaming performance which is likely to require a better graphics cards and/or processor.

Every speedup video I've seen on youtube is nonsense
If they start with "hey guys", and a squeaky voice, that's often a good clue that what comes next is a waste of time!!

Thanks for the info John. As a non techie I have not changed anything in the main settings as I haven't got a clue what figure to input, but I have just plugged a 8GB pen drive in and changed the settings to use readyboost and my netbook is a lot faster.
It isn't going to go mega fast anyway as it is only an Acer aspire one (1.6GHz, 1GB, 160 GB HDD) but it is noticeably quicker.0 -
Are you imagining things.!!

Upgrade the RAM module to 2GB....0 -

Nope. I have just opend up 6 tabs and flirted from one to the othe and there is def a diff in speed.
As I say, I haven't got the fastest netbook in the world so you may not notice much difference if you have a decent laptop, I haven't so I notice it is quicker.0 -
if there is any difference whatsoever, I doubt very much it has anything to do with readyboost!!
