Reduced Sale Price

Options
Hi

Hope someone can help here,

Bought two items yesterday from the green and orange DIY store, they were already reduced in the sale, total was £283.93 inc Delivery, they didn't have the items in store so never actually saw them but ordered from within store.

I need to go back there tomorrow, because 2 other products I bought at the same time have faults with them (curtain track missing fixings and a light fitting with a broken shade...), have just been on their website to see if anyone else had the same problems or if I was just unlucky and now they have a 15% sale off for the weekend. I could have saved £41.25 on the two large products I bought.

Can I go in and demand the difference? If not can I cancel the order for a refund and reorder at the lower price?

To top it off I was told the earliest delivery date would be 25th November, but adding the items to the absket online I can delivery on 6th, 12th, 15th, 16th etc of November, so much sooner.

Pretty annoyed to be honest, won't be shopping there again in a hurry.

I'd go in and politely ask to see a manager, explaining that you want an earlier delivery date and can you please cancel the order. Then order online at the reduced price.

If they say you can't cancel, I'd explain not only can you get them quicker, but also cheaper online. Any decent manager would refund the 15%.

the fact with a lot of retailers their online business is run separate to their store business. so a store may not be able to match what is stated online

You can go in and ask for the difference but they are under no obligation to give it to you.

You bought in store, so you are at the mercy of the stores returns policy. If their returns policy says you can cancel the order or return the items then you can do that. If not and the store refuses then there's nothing you can do.

It's always worth asking though :)

Were the porducts you bought actually shown at the cheaper price online? It is just that they normally put the prices up first then offer the discount, so you may not have saved the £40+ you think you would.

They have no obligation to refund you the difference, or in fact cancel your order. They were bought in the shop, so no DSR rules apply.

Also bear in mind that even if they allow you to cancel your current order, they are under no obligation to accept a new order at a lesser price, or indeed any price.
They may decide they no longer want to do any business with you.

Whether they do accept a new order or not will depend to some extent on how you go about your 'demanding'. :D

Effectively, you are asking for a favour.
  • If they put the price up and then asked for the extra, would you pay it?

FYI They cancelled the order and gave me a full refund so have repurchased online to give me the 15% off plus an earlier delivery date.

"If they put the price up and then asked for the extra, would you pay it?"

Interesting - I hadn't yet received the goods, if I had already got them past the door then obviously I would not have a leg to stand on with cancelling an order. The fact that they hadn't actually provided the items I've purchased means I have a right to cancel. I wasn't actually expecting them to honour the 15%, hence cancelling instead.

Would you have accepted the higher price?

It was expected they would do this but do you actually have the right to cancel, as it was an in store deal I would say you didn;t as the contract had been formed but someone else maybe to prove me wrong.

Just because you haven't received the goods doesn't mean that you have the right to cancel the contract.
This contract was made and agreed by both parties (buyer and seller) and part of this contract was that the goods would be supplied at a later date.

That particular store also sends emails out to tell you about up coming 15% weekends. This weekends email came out on friday morning. Might be worth signing up to their email list.
