British gas standard tariff - Miscalculation or my understanding

All ,

I have a doubt related to british gas standard tariff.

I signed up for british gas standard tariff 10 months before. I lost all the initial letter and welcome package from british gas - so i was not clear about the gas kwh pricing. I assume i am in standard tariff.

Today i logged in to my online BG account and cross checked my tariff.

It said
New rates inclusive of VAT charges
Standing charge: 26.000
Unit rate :4.830

But my recent bill gives the below details.

Gas units converted in KWH : 345
345.19 kwh * 7.786p = 26.88
vat at 5 percent = 1.34
Total gas bill : 28.22

And in the one of the old bill, kwh was calculated like as shown . For example : for 100 percent kwh, 90 percent was calculated with one rate and remaining 10 percent was calculated in another rate.
90percent kwh * 7.786p = ****pounds
10percent kwh * 4.14p = **** pounds

Can some tell me , whether i should call british gas for clarification ?

Why standing charge is not calculated ?

I dont know whether i should switch to some other gas provider ?

They are changing from two tier to standing charge tariff.

The standing charge is now charged at 26p per day
Previously this was levied via the difference between the 7.786 and 4.14 price. Eg, first 7 kWh would cost 7.786 p, an extra 25.5p per day.

    Hi Nada666,

Thanks for the explanation , but in most of my bills over these last 10 months.

Average cost was like show below .

For example : if 100 pounds was charged (incl. vat) - 90 pounds was calculated from 7.786p rate and remaining 10 pounds was charged from 4.14p.

Can you give a clear calculation for 2 tier tariff on per day usage basis ?

I didnt receive any official letter from british gas about this change of switching from 2 tier to standing charge tariff - from which date is this planned ?

Apologies , just now i am reading through all my pdf format bills.

    Thanks .

Your second bill only carries the tier 1 units - you did not use enough energy to be charged tier 2 units. The tariff hasn't shifted to a daily standing charge yet (it might be only coming in 23 November).

As you are using 90% or 100% tier 1 units then the change to a daily standing charge will be not to your advantage.

I have received the letter from British Gas about these price changes.

Arrived only in the last couple of days.

    Pricing is correct.

Will come in effect on the 23rd of November 2013.

You can fix at this price for 1 year.

Word of warning. Letter looks like junk mail.
