I am a member of a popular animal group on facebook, and back in august another member advertised on there for bespoke animal housing built to order, the picture looked very good, and from what I remember other members had recieved goods made by him and were very pleased, I enquired about a hutch built to order, and delivered and was pleased with the quote £145 so agreed to go a head and checked his lead time (he said two weeks) ....anyway he didnt take paypal so I sent a cheque by post and it was bank ed on the 14th august, at the end of august I messaged to check progress and was told he was just waiting for the wire, .....I waited a bit longer and messaged again, anyway by end of september I asked for it to be delivered by october 2nd as I was going away, I was told this was fine and It would be, ....It wasnt! ....i sent more messages which were ignored, and finaly asked him to refund my money, he said he would! ...I sent a stamped addressed envelope by recorede post two weeks ago stressing the situation was now urgent and for him to return a cheque by return, which he hasnt done
.....I feel sick and embarrassed to have been fooled, Is there anything I can do? Like debt recovery? Or have I just been a mug?

Send him a letter before action, then if he doesn't send you the hutch or a refund, take him to the small claims court.
I did this recently for someone who had taken money for a ticket that never arrived. He refunded me after I sent a letter before action. I never had to do the small claims."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0
