If it was a car I really liked and thought there would be no issues buying, distance wouldn't really be an issue, last two cars were over a hundred miles away and came very close to buying a car around 450 miles away a couple of times.

100 miles for a yaris recently. saved almost £1000
  • Ive bought from All over the country... 2-300 Miles away is'nt a problem. Do your homework ask the questions and take the train or trailer.

I've done 300 for a cheap trailbike (although it was the one I really wanted and it's done me 5 years' service, so a good buy) and a similar distance for a nice Series 2 Land Rover. Both times I drove with a trailer and brought it back myself.

They were bought as seen, and I accepted that I wouldn't be taking them back for any problems, so the distance was unimportant. Buying from a dealer where I expected some after-sales service, I would say about 50 miles. Above that, I wouldn't really want the hassle if it had to go back for anything.

For the right car i would travel anywhere. I almost drove 300 miles to the bottom end of Cornwall.

This was after doing a few hundred miles in one day, Crewe, Manchester, Oldham to view a pile of cars.
    None of which felt right.

Ended up buying one much closer 30 or 40 miles away. But i still went up and test drove it several times.

The furthest I've done is from Hertfordshire to Kent. However, in the future I probably wouldn't go much further. If its private, I would stick within 20miles, dealer about 40miles.

I've gone 100 miles in the past. I've always know with cars exactly what I want ie colour, model, what options I want fitted, what miles it should have.

Current car was only 16 miles away which is the closest I've ever bought from.
