Can you use the word society in a business name

My business name will be something like ABC Trading (eventually LTD hopefully) but I will be trading under two different trading styles/websites with different names.

I have read up on the use of the word society such as:

Authoritative words

There are also strict rules for using authoritative words within your company names. Words such as, association, federation or society, as these words imply your company are in fact this type and would be limited by guarantee. You also need to check if you're allowed to use words such as authority, board or council. And using a word such as institute or institution can usually only be allowed for organisations that carry out research.

You need to insure that you only use these words if they are applicable to your company.
Don't use words in your name that could be construed to mislead the public.

But I've seen the word used before when its not actually a real society. For example the fashion society.

Also the name would be registered as ABC Trading for example, but the word society would only be used in the website name if that makes sense and will have the item I will be selling before it in the name.

If anyone could tell me where I could find definite answers that would be great.

If you want a definite answer, ask Companies House or a solicitor dealing with company formations.

You don't register the name, you register a limited company with a name.

"Fashion Society" not a "real society"? Which Fashion Society did you have in mind? Why do you think any of them are not real societies?

Your websites would need to state the real name of the company if you were trading as limited company.

What's the source of that highlighted text?

    Insure??? Insure????

Do they suggest which insurance company would provide you with such an indemnity policy?

    I think this will help.

Your websites would need to state the real name of the company if you were trading as limited company.

The websites would only need the registered name of the limited company in small text at the bottom. Your actual website name can be totally different to your registered name. For example if my company was called ABC Trading Limited that wouldn't be the name of my actual website.

The fashion society is an e-commerce website selling other brands of clothing.

Not sure what you're asking here, but if it is does the website have to have the same name as the company then no it doesn't - B & Q for example have diy.com as their website. As long as the website states who it is run by and their registered address then that is fine.

Thats what I thought thank you :)

Katie Price's company name is KDC Trading Ltd but trades under the names KP Equestrian, Love Lemonade, Day 22 as all of these websites sell different things. She doesn't have the initials KDC at all in her domain name or website name. It only has KDC Trading in small writing at the bottom of the websites.
