Suspicious letter from bank

Options
I've just received a letter from my bank (Halifax), supposedly from someone at my local branch. It says they tried to contact me but couldn't (they certainly haven't rung, and my phone number is up to date). Now, the reason I'm suspicious is because the letter asks me to call them back on one of two numbers -- the first is the branch number (which is correct) and the second is an 077 mobile number. Has anybody else received letters like this?

im not a halifax customer but that sounds genuine, its usually a personal bank manager in branch informing you that you are due for an account review. they check all the products you hold recommend stuff like upgrades, savings and even "try" to save you money on other stuff like insurance. dont feel obligated to accept any of these unless you actually want to. most banks do this
  • Yes - Lloyds often write to me saying they have tried to contact me and asking me to ring them. Think they are actually too lazy to spend their time trying to contact me by phone and just send the letter. I never call them because I assume it is a sales call. They send the same letter the following year but from a different person.

My other half had a similar letter from LloydsTSB once who are same group as halifax (or were in the case of TSB)

    She ignored it

    Me too.

And yes, it's a lie that they tried to contact you before they sent the letter. That should blow any credibility they may have had with you straight out of the window.

It's simply a bank salesperson with a glorified title trying to get their fangs into you. Going into Branch will just show them you are likely to "have potential" for whatever they would like to flog you.

Account Review really means "what can we sell you, we are very greedy and want to make more money from you"
You may question anything I say. Just be polite, otherwise you go straight on to my Ignore List, which funds a good old fashioned knees-up every Xmas. Cheers;)

My husband has had letter like that, usually after a larger than usual credit has been received.

If you don't want an account review, bin it
