Halogen light vs standard lights?!

Forgive me - i may be asking a stoopid question here!!
In my hall and landing i currently have 2 x 100 watt light bulbs. Ive recently purchased wo halogen light fittings which are 50 watt.

I didnt really pay any attention but they are quite large hall and landing. Are halogen lights the same as normal, ie will the 50 watt halogens be half as bright as my existing lights?

cheers

Halogen tend to be much brighter than normal incandescent bulbs. But should you decide to go the low energy route they are more expensive to get a low energy equivalent should you at a later stage want that as an option ie LEDs
