Sent payment to account with £0.00 balance.

Hi, I have just sent a payment to a wrong credit card. The credit card (post office) I sent the money to has a balance of £0.00. Will this money just get returned to me?

Thanks

It may just be added on as additional credit
    Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

  • Ring them up and see if they can return it. It could take a few days though due to money laundering regulations. Explain that you really need it to pay off another card and see if they can do anything.

Good job you accidentally sent it to a credit card though, as the worst that can happen is a long delay before you get a cheque.

If you sent it elsewhere it may be a massive hassle to get it back.

It will probably put the card into credit.

You can ask them to refund the amount (they may do this by cheque).

Or you could use the card for a purchase for the amount you have over paid. Beware of any residual / trailing interest- you could end up with a small balance depending on statement dates, etc.
  • It won't be refunded automatically. You'll need to phone them and ask for it back. Or use the card to buy things. Either way really. But no, they're not going to just assume you want it sent back to you if you don't tell them.
