e7 electric

My e7 electric is still on at 8:45am. Surely this is peak time. Will I be paying the full rate on this even though the wires are seperate? When I complained they fitted a new meter but it's still on at 8:45am.
Also, I'm with British Gas and the rate has gone up from 4p to 8p in the last five years. Is there any company who charge less for e7? It's impossilbe to check the rates as they appear to be closely guarded secrets. ( part of the conditions of belonging to a major cartel I presume).

Depends where you stay. I'm in Scotland and my E7 meter switches off at 8.40am (I can always hear the loud click as meter is in kitchen cupboard).
If you look at meter you should see which dial is turning or flashing to see which rate is being charged.
Note: mine will switch off at 7.40 am after today when clocks change, but it will switch on an hour earlier at night.0 -

As post above, in summer(BST) the nominal switch over point to daytime rate is 08:30 in my area(Midlands) although with a slow clock it switches around 08:50. Next week when we are on GMT it switches an hour earlier.
The best E7 tariffs lately have been with Scottish Power, this is the latest tariff for my area:

Thanks for the replies. It's a digital meter. The light flashes whether it's using night rate or day?
I got a quote from Scottish Power which was more than the link you posted? They quoted 7.135p not 6.1?0 -

Contact your supplier again and clarify the times at which the lower rate of electric is due to start and finish. The timer switch could be faulty.0 -

I was checking the change over time of my meter this morning and realised it's not the flashing light that indicates which rate is in use. My meter is also a digital meter. The display revolves around three displays - rate 1, rate 2 and total. The display shows the rate number and the amount of units, but it is the rate number ie 1 or 2 that 'pulses' while that rate is being used. Check if your meter is the same.
Anyway, my meter clicked over at 07.38 this morning and I checked to make sure the immersion heater and the storage heaters had switched off by then.0
