Any tips for a relative newbie (entered about 300 over two months ish) who hasn't won anything? Completely understand I shouldn't expect to win anything and it could take for ever for a win to appear - but I've got the "waste of time, think I'll give up" feeling today! Not helped by hearing last night that someone I know won 14 million dollars in US lottery last week!! (Unfortunately, not someone I know well enough to share any of their dollars with me;)). I need a bit of motivation from you MSE compers here to help me keep me plodding on!

You need to be comfortable with the, as we used to call it in online games, RNG factor.
Comping, except in judged effort, is a pure Random Numbers Game.
Never put more into RNG than you are willing to lose.
(as an aside, your friend that won the lottery? wish them all the luck and support in the world, it's common for lottery winners to have a hard time dealing with it)0 -
300 over two months? Hun, I can enter 300 in 2 days! Maybe take a look in the dailies thread, add the ones you want to enter and do them daily - I have more luck with them
Best of luck hunThanks to all posters :A0 -
If you don't have much time to enter comps, (I do about 3 hours a day!) then look out for the big give-aways, such as the recent 1000 Chromebook comp, as it was a photo effort comp a lot of people were probably put off entering, which improved the odds for the ones entering multiple times.0

This is going to be soooo boring to many here, because I've said this several times before - sorry.
For me, the best thing about comping as a hobby is the on-going excitement of never knowing what might happen today or tomorrow. Winning is fabulous, but whether postie does or doesn't bring me a prize today is a small part of it all. The bigger picture is not about what I have or haven't won to date, but about the excitement every time I check emails, or when the phone rings, and definitely when I see my postie coming or whenever a delivery van pulls up. So it's less about the wins, and more about a way of life.
Yep, it is a bit pathetic. I'll take the shameDon't care cos actually, I love it
Blu XI am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apology
THIS IS ME!
When you talk down to others it says more about you than them.0 -
I'd agree with previous posters. I'm a relative newbie but at the moment whilst I'm waiting for a job CRB I'm entering anywhere between 30 and 200 a day (depending on the comps as I only enter things I want). I've had a couple of small wins (Meerkat Tales books, a free 3 course dinner I went to last night) but I'm not doing it for the wins so much (although obviously they'd be amazing)- it's more as a time filler and a hobby and a bit of excitement.0

^^This!!
I agree, for me the fun is in the anticipation of what *might* turn up, not the expectation that I will win!!
The great thing is, there are so many competitions, so even if you don't win one, there are hundreds more that could potentially bring a win!! Any time you check your emails or answer the door to the postie, it could be bringing exciting news - and that's what keeps me hooked!! I haven't had a great deal of wins lately but the thing that keeps me going is this time tomorrow, this time next week etc etc, that could have all changed and I could have had a few great wins!!0 -
Thanks for all your replies, I just wanted to hear how other people felt, yes, I do agree that not knowing what might turn up in the post or in your inbox is part of the buzz. I think I felt the same when the lottery first started and I was completely shocked and dismayed when I didn't win anything the first week! Also this week I've had a load of cold calls on my mobile and every time it rings I'm convinced I've won something. Onwards and upwards.0

My first win in a short time after starting comping last year was an X Box console out of the blue - I thought, "wow this is amazing and so easy"......needless to say I've won nothing like that since lol, a few small things here and there and now actually nothing for a couple of months. That said, I do only enter things I actually want to win, so similarly to Rossco-Clarko I too enter between 30 and 200 a day. It's my birthday next week so I'm hoping the comping fairy will sprinkle some lucky birthday dust my way
Good luck and keep plodding on2024 £72, 2023 £2230, 2022 £300, 2021 £1800, 2015 £3790, 2014 £44600
