OS Daily Saturday 26th October 2013

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning

Looks horrible , wet and dark outside, don't really want to venture out but it's for the paid stuff so I have too ;)

mIL is coming for tea tonight , so I'm planning on a slow cooker beef stew with mash and veg. With Yorkshires as she loves them

The house needs cleaning before she comes so I'm hoping dh will do that

Have a lovely day everyone xx
  • Good morning everyone :)

Dark, raining and cold, will be doing all I can to stay indoors today but needs must!

Joined Facebook last night and have no idea what to do. Is there some sort of group for the OS thread people? Or do people just find each other? Gosh I sound useless but that's because I am. Help please :o

Daughter wants me to make her a Corpse Bride costume for Halloween. She has bought a charity shop wedding dress and I am to be set loose on it. Watch this space ......

No idea what's for dinner so need to go and raid the freezer and decide what to do with the mountain of washing. I saw someone bought a heated airer this week which looked very much like the Lakeland one, was it from Aldi?

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs or just wants them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Hi all,

I woke up early for once so I got up to make a shopping list because the cupboard is decidedly bare of goodies and DD is here (her bf is coming later because he was working late last night). Must stick to the shopping list though because I am still trying to be frugal.

DD wants to go to Cambridge later because she has a locket she needs to get a chain for. I might look for a few Christmas presents.

We had some good news yesterday in that it looks like everything is in place now to exchange contracts on the house we are buying in Yorkshire, I can't wait.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.
  • Thank you so much for the PM :A

    Morning all,

Strangly warm here, and the sky is a funny colour, think the storm is on the way !

OH gone out to the boot sale, he bought me tea in bed and I have been reading since 6.30, hunger got me up in the end :D

Today we need to try and hang the new wardrobe doors, when I say me I actually mean OH, I shall be on hand to hold / pass things, we have 12 relatives coming here for dinner tomorrow eve, a lot of people are travelling for the funeral so we are all getting together for a meal and drinks, which will be lovely, but atm my conservatory (where we eat with guests) is full of bits of MDF, 6 wardrobe doors, tins of glue, paint, tools etc, and my kitchen and study have 2 very long lengths of skirting and architrave running along the length of the floor floor, which you have to continually step over ! Oh and I also have a huge pile of rubble that came out of the fire place in the bedroom, which is currently in the car port.

So today will be spent clearing / tidying / cleaning everything in sight ! I just hope people can still get here due to the weather.

Wm is on the go, will try and hang it out for a while, but will have to see.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone,

TTFTM Congratulations on the new job.

Congratulations to all the new grandparents on here as well , there seem to have been a lot of babies born recently!

Snoozer Great news on the house.

    Hugs to all in need.

Just back from a great week in Devon, our half term was last week so back to work on monday.
The place we stayed was Bigbury on Sea, it has a huge beach which is heaven for dogs this time of year, they are banned from the beach in the summer, LW you would have loved it!
I have discovered body boarding, yes, I am 49 years old, but I had a brilliant time and am now covered in bruises from my daily visits to the waves! I also never realised how warm the sea is this time of year.

Off to the supermarket today to stock up the cupboards.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

    Morning :hello:

Baby blanket no 1 is finished, no 2 is almost done :D E's boss is throwing her a baby shower, it's at work so the people who have shifts that afternoon can be there in between customers. How do baby showers work, do you buy 'congratulations' cards and does the mum-to-be get some sort of present too or is it all about the baby?

The freezers, cupboards and fridge are all full, we shouldn't have to go shopping for a couple of weeks. I'll pick up milk, fruit and veg as we need it.

Mr tru got up this morning and decided to make stew, I sat here with coffee while he sorted it. It's in the slow cooker, he's gone to work and I'm still sat here, with more coffee :D

It's very windy here, I went down to sort the chickens out earlier and wondered if I should put little leads on them to stop them blowing away :D They have plenty of shelter but seem happy having their feathers blown about, they look like little punk chickens :D

The storm? Bring it on, I have scented candles, chocolate, wine, hooks and yarn. I am ready :D

Lazy start for me today hubby & I went to bed early, intending to have some hestering fun, but he received a text from work, an hour later and lots of texts we turned over & went to sleep, it was a child protection issue and arrangements needed to be put in place for various official visits, hubby's on holiday but he's the main point of contact for the staff as he's the most experienced, we don't begrudge the time.
Plans for today include battening down the hatches ready for the storm and watching the GP Qually.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning all,

just had a quick ramble round the grounds of Luxor Towers, surveying last night's storm damage - took all of 2 seconds to untangle a recycling bag from the back gate and wedge it back under the bench.

Off to the Uplands market now, then I'll potter in the house. As DD is coming for a few days I won't need to make cake as she is a keen baker.

Strictly and a curry tonight - woo hoo :o

    Have a great day!
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

Hello all, I think I only bob in now on a Saturday as it seems to set me up for the weekend. I'm late up today, sure it had someone to do with the heating on and being all cosy!

My first candy tree seemed really well received by BIL. Well he posted a photo of him with it on Facebook! I know why they cost so much... It's the amount of sweets they need!

Anyway off to a cheap caravan break on mon. Our household knows we don't pack until the house tidy and clean which looking at the hurricane that seems to have passed through this week will be taking us a while!

Well done on people's achievements this week and hugs for those who need one. Thinking of people in the storm zone. Keep safe.
Don’t put it down - put it away!
