Connecting PC upto a LCD TV

Hi guys - fairly naive question here but how easy is it to connect a PC upto a 32" LCD TV - what inputs do I need on TV and what ports on PC?

Any software/drivers that are normally needed or is it a piece of cake? I am not exactly a technophobe but as you can tell by me asking this question I am not exactly an expert either!!!

I haven't purchased either yet as am awaiting some advice/help which shall be massively appreciated.

All replies shall of course be thanked individually as well.

It depends what you want to do .If you just want to watch movies then it is fairly easy using an SVHS socket .You will need one on the PC .The easiest way to desribe it is it looks like a circular connection and the holes inside look a bit like a face ..
connect this up to the tv through a scart lead ..find the Tv as a new display by right clicking on the desktop and looking for dispalys under advanced settings (this might just be on my computer)...Then go through the AV channels on your TV and you will find the picture...sound is the usuall red and white stereo connections ..or the headphone socket...
This is not the right option if you want to use your tv as your desktop as this is only for veiwing videos on ...but it is a much cheaper set up .

http://hometheater.about.com/od/lcdtvfaqs/f/lcdfaq4.htm just gotta basically have the correct vga connector on the Tv then its basically just about hooking it up via vga socket/SVHS socket or hdmi if you wanna spend some more cash.

Maybe someone here can help me out with a similar issue? I have a laptop with integrated DVD-ROM drive and want to view films etc by connecting the player (laptop) to my TV (LCD with 15-pin D-type & S-Video inputs).

I can get the desktop to appear on the TV but when I play my films through my player software (e.g. WinDVD) the picture in the player window is blank. The film is definitely playing though since I can hear sound and if I use dual-display mode I can see the picture on my laptop's screen. Switching to full-screen mode has no effect (other than to blank the entire screen).

Thanks in advance for any advice...

(laptop's video adapter is ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 & OS is XP)

Thanks guys - very very helpful - I now need a computer with S-Video output really then...

I actually do want to use the TV as my full-time monitor so will investigate further into how to do this in more detail before asking any more questions...

  • to be honest If you are putting PC onto a 32" LCD I wouldn't use s-video

Definately get a tv a VGA or DVI port!! the resolution through s-video will be terrible!

Plug in your tv ,find it by right clicking on the desktop ,Properties ..then advanced settings ...This will take you into a radeon menu ...turn on the tv by pressing the on button icon ....then close ..start dvd and press f5..this should turn the laptop display off and turn tv into desktop ...you should see the dvd movie screen just make it full screen....when the movie is finished ..press f5 again...and laptop screen will be the desktop ...
There is a good chance that will work ....
