Hi, bought some cod liver oil today it's Naf make, they said its for horses and dogs but only says how much to give a horse!, 1-3 tablespoons
So how much for a dog? I was thinking a teaspoon? It's for a 10 yr border collie
Also should I give the 7 mth old some?
Thanks

Cod liver oil isn't the best for dogs, a fish oil is great for them but not fish liver oil. If it says it's for dogs it should have a dosage on it, what does it say?

Cod liver oil is high in vitamin A (or D, I forget which) which ends up stored in the dogs liver and can cause problems. It's okay in small doses and occasionally but no good to be given daily or long term.

A fish skin oil or fish body oil is much better as it has all of the good stuff from cod liver oil and all if the benefits but without the side effects.

Salmon oil is the most popular to give or a tin of sardines or pilchards in either oil or tomato juice (brine is a no no)

or even a bit of olive oil - I have put a half teaspoon or so on the base of Barneys spine every other day for about a week now, he licks it off within minutes and I am noticing that his fur is beginning to show a gloss - and he doesn't seem to mind me doing this.
Barney doesn't do well with fish - it upsets his digestion - hence the olive oil.

I buy the capsules from Dorwest for the cats, it does say on the bottle how many to give a dog per day. I asked the vet what dose for cats and he said one capsule each twice a week.
