Wren Kitchens – must pay in full 21 days before delivery?

Hi all

Quick one for you, I’ve ordered and paid a 10% deposit on a kitchen from Wren and have just had a call asking for payment in full which must be made 21 days in advance of the delivery date. Failure to do so will mean a £150 extra charge to deliver another time – plus of course no delivery until I pay in full.

I’d MUCH rather pay some but not all as if the inevitable happens and they get something wrong, or an appliance doesn’t work, or there’s missing parts and I have to pay my kitchen fitter extra to come back on one or more times, I feel I’d be in a much better position withholding some of the cost.

Is there anyway around this? Is it standard and legal for them to want payment in full 3 weeks before I even see anything?

Any info and advice appreciated!

I cant think of any of the larger firms not doing this - pay at least partof it by credit card and you will have a bit of protection in case Wren do down the swanny.

    I agree.

I cannot think of anywhere you would pay after delivery.

As already advised pay by credit card.

If you look at my earlier thread,i have problems with paying up front.

We have been in negotiations with the larger multi companies for a kitchen and they all wanted paying up front,i have since agreed a 20K deal with a privately owned local company, the deal is 3k on signing,10K when all the appliances get delivered to my property next week, the balance on completion.

There is a way round this with the bigger firms, if you have a good credit rating that is.

All of them offer finance packages on kitchens. Take one of these out, and you can pay a 10% deposit, have the kitchen delivered, fitted too if you wish to use their fitting services, and pay it off when you have received the goods and/or services, but before the finance package kicks in. Most of them will offer an "interest option" type product, with no admin fee and no early repayment penalty. These give you an interest free period to pay off the loan, then switch to interest baring if you do not pay off the loan in the interest free period.

You cannot have finance on something you have not received yet, so only after you have received the goods does the interest free period starts.
