Mazda 6 airbag fault - help!
We have a '54 reg mazda 6 which we need to sell but has now got an airbag fault.
Its uninsured and on the drive at the moment (its taxed & mot'd tho).
The airbag flashes one long flash followed by two quick flashes - think this is airbag fault 12? A friend did a diagnostic on it and it came up with the following mazda fault codes/details: B1342 'ECU INTERNAL FAULT' and B2867 'CONNECTOR HALF INSERTION DETECTED'.
We've being trying to figure out how we can fix it without spending a small fortune on it as the cars not worth a lot now
(although it is reliable). We've looked under the seats and checked the connectors are clicked into place, but not sure what else to do.
Spoke to a couple of garages but they want us to fetch it in, but looking at the costs on the internet for airbag repairs is scary
If anyone has got any ideas/suggestions as to what it can be, it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

If its MOT'd then advertise it and list the fault...your going to get knocked down anyway.
Have you completed a SORN?
What price are you hoping to achieve?"Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
Hi, thanks for replying. we've advertised it stating the fault, originally at £950 but dropped to £895, and just had one person ring with an offer of £700 (from London area).Foxy-Stoat wrote: »If its MOT'd then advertise it and list the fault...your going to get knocked down anyway.

not completed a SORN.0 -
Fixing an air bag fault can cost hundreds unless you can identify exactly what the issue is, air bag unit, ecu broken wire etc etc and find the part cheaply on ebay.
A hit of £200 on your reduced price doesn't sound unfair.
Up to you though."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
As its a cheapo, I'd disconnect the battery, leave it 15 minutes then disconnect and reconnect all of the associated srs connections you can find. The first culprit, is as you say, the ones under the seats because they are moving with the seat adjustment.0

a second hand control module on fleabay is £40-£60.
IIRC the control modul is located in the driverside footwell behind the center consul trim.
ive 2 issues with this type mazda before with friends dads mazda 6 on a 2002, the wire on the passenger side seat was corroded (green/white corrosive matter on the connections), and the airbag module itself, was faulty.
I cleaned off the connectors with some white vinegar (great for killing surface rust) and with small screw driver (I used a thin small one for eye glassware) took the plastic block off to gain access to them pushing the retaining clips down, with white vinegar, on a cloth rubbed them down and let fry for 10 mins, came back with wire wool and cleaned them up, reinserted the wires back into the block and reconnected. did the same on driver side (disconnect battery first).
I undid the trim covering the module, and rechecked that the connectors were solid to the module sprayed contact cleaner on them and reinserted the connector.
reconnected bat (was off about 40 mins by this time) and the light went off but retured back on on a 10 min drive, I got a replacement working module from a scrap yard lucky they had a module that matched the serial numbers off the faulty one.
there was no connector fault but module internal fault persisted so I changed it.0 -
thank you for your input - will see how we get on - fingers crossed.0

The air bag warning light on my Fiat Stilo could be cured by spraying the contacts with contact cleaner. It used to work for about 6 weeks and then needed redoing. Eventually I just rewired the connector into a chocolate block connector.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
