Has Anyone Noticed that

You can't buy Barkeeper's Friend in the supermarkets anymore. I wonder why? Maybe because its something that actually works. I have a stainless steel sink that everyone throws teabags into and would be stained if it wasn't for the wonder BF which cuts through like a knife. However, I now have run out and have tried many things to clean it. The new concentrated flash (rubbish, did not shift any stains), vinegar (had no effect), Flash with bleach (no effect), plain bleach (has to be left soaking for ages to work). I scrub it with a scourer but it needs a cleaner, Ajax is too abrasive.

Do any of you know of any really good cleaners or where to buy BF from now. I am getting a bit desperate now as it has many other uses.

  • Hi,

It seems that Lakeland, Robert Dyas and John Lewis do (according to google). Online amazon and biggreensmile.com do.

BarKeepers Friend - Lakeland are supposed to stock it at "£2.79.
  • I like Viakal. It removes limescale and (for me) tea stains!
My OH is a terror for chucking cold tea/teabags down the sink and not running the tap even
Viakal makes it shine again (buy it when it's on offer though, over £2 otherwise).
    Normal people worry me.

    bleach removes tea stains.....
put a half inch of water in the sink, squeeze in a few shots of thick bleach, leave overnight....
if you want it done straightaway, pour some neat on sponge or cloth and wipe it round.

damn sight cheaper than 3 quid....

Now you mention it, I haven't seen it for ages. I can't seem to buy star drops anywhere either.

  • I used to use barkeepers friend - but moved to astonish when it became difficult to get
same thing but a thick paste rather than a powder
    worked out much better value
then noticed lidl do a w5 cleaning paste - which looked more expensive ( but even astonish can be hard to get round here)
but when I checked the volumes - it is infact cheaper again !

nice somethings going down in price
and yes it does work at least as well...

Best thing I have found to clean stainless steel is bicarbonate of soda (breadsoda) whi h is still very cheap, especially if you can buy in bulk in Asian shops. I keep it in shaker thingy and shake all round sink, give a good scrub with plastic scourer and rinse off....simples.
