I am looking to hire a camper van or RV for a week to try out the outside experience before going the whole hog and any ideas would be gratefully accepted

If you google 'motorhome hire' (put UK sites in preferences) you get a whole load of hirers all over the country.
HTH... happy camping!“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

If you fancy visiting Cornwall, and like the idea of a classic VW camper, you could try www.rentadub.co.uk
Minimum rental period is 3 days. I've not hired a camper from them, but I would like to - looks like a lot of fun.People are more important than things0 -

aw sunny welcome to MSE. I didn't notice you were an MSE v1rgin:D I'm more than happy to be of any help (as I'm sure you'll find the vast majority of MSErs are). I've even thanked your first post for you so you'll see that appear alongside your name now too“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

Thought about buying one? Just looked on ebay and this doesn't seem too bad http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOYOTA-HIACE-COACHBUILT-MOTORHOME_W0QQitemZ290129007253QQihZ019QQcategoryZ14256QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Looked for buy it now ones rather than auctions as the final sale price is guaranteed. This one is there for £2000. Ok insurance will probably cost what it would cost to hire a camper van, but you would own it.
Edit: this one sold for £320

Edit again: This is probably the best one gone for the lowest price £1022

Thanks for this they look excellent and just my idea of heaven being an old VW fan........:j I must say I am really impressed with Martin and all the bloggers cheers0 -
They still make that model of VW these days but with a watercooled engine which means a radiator on the front.
They are somewhat more driveable - and reliable - than the ones from the 1970's
There's an awful lot of companies hiring out VW's these days, not justin Cornwall - just google "vw camper hire"0 -
This site's worth a look if you're almost geting the bug - quite a bit of info, a forum, and a few decent guides for sale http://www.go-motorhoming.co.uk/
Good luck with it, and don't forget the progress reports...0
