Mario, glad you found a solution, hope he improves.

Try aiming inside the cheek, rather then down throat. Goes same way, but easier on the hamster.

Best of luck, keep us updated!

I agree with you but I was actually thinking of antibiotics for injuries or minor infections, not the death's door illnesses you describe, and of course, you're right in those latter circumstances and I would do the same.

I'm in wildlife rescue and it's a completely different scenario to pet rescue so my comments are probably not as relevant as yours. Just thought it might help if the OP is stuck (and the hamster is obviously not seriously ill.)

my apologies - its an entirely different thing dealing with wild animals as opposed to pets. and lab animals are different again.

Lab rats are actually very docile and friendly, as they have to be used to being handled. They have the same origins as pet rats.
  • Again, thanks everyone for the suggestions.
He's pretty ill, almost certain it's wettail (not eating/drinking/interacting/wet backend) but vet disagreed but didn't give a proper diagnosis. We're just trying anything to help him try to get better and/or make him comfortable
  • To open a can of worms - withholding water from wildlife is wrong too.

If they are that stressed then treatment should be withdrawn/patient euthanased. Wildlife rescue is very different, but to hear of one resorting to this sounds very odd.
