RAC renewal

Love the RAC - used them a few times & always excellent service - however the admin side not so good.
Received the 'you don't have to do anything' renewal letter & noticed cost was £250 which struck me as very expensive for 3 drivers admittedly with Home Start included.
RAC phoned to check we were renewing (always a sign that some negotiation is possible).
In less than 30 seconds the £250 was reduced to £120.
While obviously pleased to have agreed an acceptable cost I wonder how many people just auto renew?

Comments

  • The same amount that auto renew car insurance, home insurance and don't cap utilities. God bless them, keeping it cheap for the smart ones. :)
  • When ever that happens to me, I find a cheaper alternative and then call to cancel. When they say they can reduce the amount I tell them to stick it, they should have quoted their best price to start with.

As mentioned currently in an other thread the ADAC is much cheaper.

It's a non-profit, member-owned organisation as opposed to the RAC, AA etc which are nowadays simply business companies out to make a profit
  • Thanks for your comments.
I should feel happy to have saved over £100 but just feel hollow - I think this is what bitter/sweet is like?
Happy I've got my cost down but massively disappointed that it took a phone call to do this - all the elderly etc that just renew losing money
