I recently sold my wife's car. new owner insured it and I got road tax for her (as it involved change of category from disabled to petrol car and out of SORN)
anyway I ran the car down to the local garage to put a few quids fuel in and met a traffic car coming the other way, I was in a line of slow moving traffic, next thing I was pulled over as being flagged up with having no insurance.
I was covered by my own insurance so no real problem but It made me wonder are the patrol cars fitted with constantly running ANPR cameras or was I just a random chance check.

Constantly running ANPR as far as I’m aware.

Not all traffic cars have ANPR fitted but those that have it fitted will use it.

Surely all traffic cars should have ANPR installed, thought it was the general plod cars that didn't.

I think you were lucky to escape as it was still not road legal especially since continuous insurance came in. Cops must have used some common sense which is good to see.

I honestly cannot remember the last time I saw a traffic car around here, they just seem to rely on speed cameras
We could do with a few more police on the roads as we are one of the worst areas for uninsured / crash 4 cash but I suppose it would not help racial tension.

Devon and Cornwall Police have just announced that they are restoring traffic police following withdrawal some time ago. Traffic duties had been carried out by armed response officers and vehicles but the increase in traffic violations and RTC's has prompted this move.

Hmm not sure that you are right..... the car was SORN'd from date of transfer of our insurance, new insurance cover by new owner.....
car taken off sorn and road taxed using new owners insurance... Only then driven on the road. covered by my comprehensive cover while I was driving it.

Most likely the database the Police use had not yet been updated to show that the vehicle was now insured by the new owner, and it came up uninsured.
