A&L switching service

Have had a huge row with Natwest. Basically , they wrongly processed my wages resulting in me going O/D by 7p for a few minutes (11:51pm wages went in at midnight. due in previous night). Although they have admitted the fault was theirs , they have still charged me.

So i am looking for a new current account and settled on the A&L service wgich includes switching all dd and s/o .

Has anyone done this , and was it successful

I would recommend you avoid acccount switching services. They tend to be quite slow, meaning you'll have to keep a very close eye on where your payments are being taken from for some time. You won't have to look too hard here to find some of the other problems people have run into.

It really isn't hard to get a list of your DD's and SO's and do it yourself - that way at least you can confirm when each one will start being taken from the new account, meaning that you will know how much money to leave in your old account to cover the outstanding debits. You'll also be able to make sure your old standing orders are cancelled before the new ones start paying out.

If you're switching to A&L, then you'll need to use their switching service if you want them to match your existing overdraft, but you only need to use it to switch one payment across.

I did not use the A&L switching service, firstly because I did not want anything switching over, and secondly, even if I had, I would not have trusted a switching service to do it properly. Having said that, my A&L overdraft is actually higher than the one I have with HSBC! God knows why, I am not using it anyway.

I used it several years ago and it all went smoothly in a short time. Just keep enough money in your old account until you are sure all DD's & SO's have been transferred.

IIRC A&L guarantee no charges whilst the switching process is going on, so reserved's advice is spot on - make sure your ORIGINAL account never goes overdrawn and don't worry too much about the new one.

Does switching my salary count as switching a payment to get a matched overdraft? Or would I also have to switch a DD?
