this is generally spot on, most work systems will not have half the bloat that is installed on a home pc (due to not being allowed to install beyond the basics needed) so a fresh install (after backing up inportant data) will get rid of the programs you didnt even realise where installed on your computer but which slow it down

otherwise a SSD (solid state drive) will make programs and things saved on it have a almost instant retrival time, however they are expensive for the capcity you get for example £100 will get you 1000GB+ (1tb) of storage space with a normal hard drive but £100 will only get you around 120gb in a SSD
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
  • you may find a fast processor and more memory helps too.

insufficient memory is often the culprit

What laptop do you have at the moment (i.e. cpu, ram, etc)?

A solid state drive will make the world of difference, way beyond any memory upgrade. As the vast majority of laptops have their cpu and gfx chips soldered to the motherboard, upgrading these is nigh on impossible.

Make a backup image of your current hard drive, replace it with an ssd, clone the image back. Job done.:)

Cost will depend on what capacity you need, but I managed to pick up an OCZ Vertex 2 100GB SATA-II for £39.99 a few weeks back.

  • Just do what everyone else does & try a few laptops out in P C World.
Once you have found something you are happy with, buy it online.
