Late payment to Barclays Partner Finance

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help me.

This morning I suddenly remembered it was car payment time and that I hadn't transferred the money across from my other bank account to pay it (I've just started a PGCE and all that is in my head is lesson plans and anger for Michael Gove). I go online to check my account and of course the payment bounced yesterday (the one time Barclays Partner Finance have actually taken the payment on time, of course!), so I quickly transferred the money over.

I rang Barclays and told them the payment had bounced but the money was there now and the operator told me Barclays would try again in 5 working days.

Obviously, when they try again the money will go out, the payment will be made and I will have incurred a £20 late fee, which I totally understand.

My worry now is that this will show up on my credit file. I have tried to research but couldn't really find anything related specifically to car finance. I found some people talking about credit cards or other loans that say it will show and I've found some saying it would only show if the payment hadn't been made after 30 days.

I'd just like a definitive answer really, to put my mind at rest one way or the other.

Thanks for any help you can give!

  • The only people who can give you a definitive answer is Barclays.

Some lenders will mark it as late if it is at all late, some allow some leeway and only report if it is late at the time they provide their monthly feed to the CRAs.

Could you not phone them again and make a card payment today so that it is not late? Be insistent that they take payment, I would not let them wait 5 days.

  • Thanks for your responses.

I have called again, and spoke to a guy at the call centre who said that USUALLY as long as the payment was made within the same month, there would be no late mark.

However, now I've realised that five days from now will take me into November... and I didn't ask if it was a calendar month or a 30 day period, duh!

In the long run, is one late mark going to affect me in a major way? I still live at home and won't be in a position to get a mortgage for a good few years yet. I have my car for another four and a half years so I'm not planning to trying to get finance or loans for anything else for a good while yet...
  • It's not the end of the world if they report it late. Just don't make a habit of it.

And since you can't change it either way, crack open the beer and thank god it's Friday.

(Is 11am too early for a beer?)

I have a agreement with Barcleys for a bed. A also have a copy of my recent credit report from experian and it looks like they report to the CRAs on the 8th of the month.

So based on the fact it should be the same for everyone you should be fine.

I know what you mean about this it's normally 2 or 3 days after the date they say when they get round to taking it. Even if the payment date is during the week.
