I have had a few of thes HTML bank Fraud trojans the past few weeks come into my email and immediately dealt with by my Avast free antivirus software. This is worrying as I have online bank accounts with Halifax, Santander and Natwest. They seem to push using Rapport software but I always decline because I tried it once and it was pain in the backside. I heard on the radio today a woman saying she lost 20K because of this malicious software running in the background of her PC. She didn't open the email, just highlighted it which was enough to set it off. My Avast software blocked it before it got in my email inbox so what I would like to know is:

How can I check this is safe without logging into my account ?

Is Rapport my only option ?

I am very concerned.

People who fall for these scam will often claim they never did anything. I saw Angela Rippon on "Rip of Britain" talking about her E-mail being "Hacked" by skilled criminal Hackers. Barely mentioning in the program that she gave them her login details by a phishing e-mail.

From a security standpoint your email client should only be set to display plain-text not HTML and not to download any images or open attachments.

I have never had any experience with Rapport but there is a lot of negative views online about it. It appears to be a malware keylogger used to protect against other malware.

These are not bank specific. And I don't get to see them because Avast puts them in the vault.

I have a unique email address for my bank and a separate email address for ebay and another one for paypal.

Very few emails on these accounts. Although some naughty seller has used my ebay email address and passed it onto some dodgy sites.

I got an email with my full ebay name which varies slightly to my real name (pete/peter) type of change.

I always use different email addresses for comparison websites also. Lots of spam on my Compare the Market email address.

  • If you want to bank online I would suggest using a linux live usb/cd for it, rapport is a piece of rap (note the two invisible c's). I use a live linux for all my !!!!!! too, that way Mrs DCM can't prove nothing(well ok in proper English "anything")

In the paid for version of Avast there is "Safezone" specifically designed to give you secure access to online banking and shopping sites.
If you have the free version you might consider using a program like SandboxIE or learning how to make your browser more secure by reading some of the advice freely available via google.

You could go on but it wouldn't do any good because apple are a locked entity. Pc is a different engine which is vunareable. I have never heard of anyone getting a virus or mailware on the ipad.:rotfl:
